Online Rescue for Young Victims of Commercial Sexual Exploitation

The mission of Ahava Kids, a not-for-profit, human rights organization, is to rescue and care for young victims of child trafficking, exploitation, and abuse in the United States and throughout the world. Through direct intervention, Ahava Kids has developed the process of Rescue, Relocation and Rehabilitation. This is the most effective method of direct intervention for removing young people from the various dangers of commercial sexual exploitation while giving them the best chance at survival and a far better life. Using this process, Ahava Kids has assisted in saving over 3,000 young people around the world and in the United States since 2003.

Direct intervention is the very core of Ahava Kids’ effectiveness and impact. For victims of the Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (SCEC) in America, immediate intervention is their last, best hope. They are caught in a world they did not make or choose. They are trapped in lives of constant fear and torture. And they are waiting for someone to take them away. Now, the Ahava Kids’ CyberVention program will reach out to these children in an entirely new and more effective way.

At this very moment, the forced prostitution of young people is exploding in the United States. Recent findings from the FBI place the number of domestic victims of commercial sexual exploitation at over 200,000 each year. Yet, this explosion is not happening on the streets. It is happening online. According to Federal law enforcement studies, only 10-20% of today’s prostitution is street-based. Cloaked by the anonymity of the internet the commercial sexual exploitation of children is surging. It is no longer hidden away on dark corners and in back alleys. It is now readily available on any computer through mainstream websites like Craigslist.

Local, State and Federal law enforcement officials are unanimous in their frustration with the proliferation of online commercial sexual services and the exploitation of children online. The interaction Ahava Kids has with law enforcement is extensive and growing. As such, every law enforcement official with whom we speak specifically mentions Craigslist as the most widely used forum for those offering and buying the sexual exploitation of young people.

Craigslist, an Internet company well known for enabling users to conveniently list classified ads, discussion forums, and services in very specific geographic regions, has now become a popular marketplace for the sale of human beings. With its free postings and total anonymity for its users, Craigslist's "Erotic Services" site has become a vehicle for the trafficking and exploitation of women and children.

The logistics of how these services are provided online need not be explained in detail here. It is enough to say that the commercial sexual services of girls and boys are openly offered in every community in the United States. These free, unmonitored listings come complete with photos, phone numbers and rates for services. Further, the men who seek to buy these young people are able to ask for and post reviews of specific young victims, comparing the level of “service” for each. This activity is not illegal or limited in any way.

Until now, only child’s rights activists have known about Craigslist’s ability to offer children and especially young girls for sale. We believe it is time for the general public to become aware of what is happening and to support the immediate intervention and rescue of victims being offered online. Some advocacy groups are petitioning the leadership of Craigslist to take action and curtail the activities of online trafficking. This is a very worthy effort. But, Ahava Kid will not wait. These children are in danger now and they need immediate intervention to save them.

Our team of Intervention Specialists carry out the mission of Ahava Kids to rescue and care for victims of commercial sexual exploitation and trafficking. Traditionally, intervention is conducted on the streets, in truck stops, or at any other location where young girls are forced into prostitution. While this important work will continue to expand, the time has come to move online, where thousands are waiting for help.

The Ahava Kids CyberVention program will aggressively contact and pursue CSEC victims listed on Craigslist, and other similar sites, offering any and all immediate assistance as well as the freedom that has been stolen from them. Along with returning their freedom, they will be given safety, protection, healthcare, education, and a future with hope.

We know who these victims are and where to find them right now. Like those who wish to exploit them, we also have the same access to their online information, photos and phone numbers. Ahava Kids’ CyberVention is a massive online intervention program offering rescue, care or any other services that will remove them from a horrible life they have not chosen, but which has been forced upon them.

The methodology is simple. Trained Ahava Kids’ Intervention Specialists will go online, seeking those who are being forced to offer their bodies for sale in specific geographic areas. Using our dedicated 24 Hour Intervention and Rescue Hotline phone number, they will work from a carefully formatted script which will explain that Ahava Kids is here to help right now or at any moment in the future. With sensitivity and passion, these young people will get the clear message that there are people who care about them and who will stop at nothing to rescue them.

If they call on us for rescue, these young victims will be taken immediately the new Ahava Kids Safe House, a facility designed specifically for the urgent care of CSEC victims. Here, they will undergo extensive assessment and be provided with all the care they need to rebuild their young lives.

Fortunately, the Ahava Kids CyberVention program will have an enormously powerful impact on the lives of young victims without incurring a high financial commitment. The only real expense is for the work of our Intervention Specialists, who will not only conduct CyberVention operation, but train others to conduct this important program across the United States.
